When visiting Kassandra, Halkidiki, the Byzantine Tower of Nea Fokea is a historical monument you must see. Also known as St. Paul’s Tower, this impressive stone structure was built in 1407to protect the local farming estate of the Mount Athos monasteries.
Standing at 17 meters tall on a rocky hill right next to the sea, it completely dominates the beautiful harbor of the village.
According to local tradition, the Apostle Paul hid in the caves beneath the tower. Today, it is one of the most photographed and recognizable landmarks in Halkidiki. It is an easy drive from Evridiki Hotel in Fourka, offering a great opportunity for a morning trip.
Visitors can enjoy a walk around the picturesque marina, eat fresh fish at the local taverns, and take amazing photos of the sea.
